A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO) is a NYC-based non-profit organization working in the developing world, bringing free orthopedic care to children with limb disabilities whose families cannot afford treatment.
The organization provides high-quality continuous care until the age of 21 for all patients treated under ALTSO’s programs. Since 2003, their programs in Asia, Africa, and Latin America have provided free orthopedic care to more than 19,500 children in need.
Helping CoolKids
In the developing world, children with limb disabilities are often left untreated or provided with low quality, unhygienic devices that are unfit for their specific needs, size, and climate.
ALTSO recognizes that not only is having a limb disability hard, but that mobility solutions must empower and uplift children – or as ALTSO refers to them as CoolKids – this is why ALTSO provides a variety of solutions for all CoolKids in need.
ALTSO believes that mobility is: Physical – The ability to clean yourself, clothe yourself, feed yourself, and relieve yourself; Social – The ability to improve self-esteem, make friends, engage in community, and create family stability; Economic – The ability to access education, secure gainful employment, gain self-sufficiency, and break the cycle of poverty.
This is why ALTSO is on a mission to provide three essential needs:
- Prosthetic limbs – A prosthetic limb in the United States costs more than $10,000. 1.7 billion people worldwide earn less than $2 a day. It would take a poor family 5,000 days of income or 50 years of work to afford a $10,000 product.
- Orthotic braces – Many of our CoolKids are in need of long-term orthotic braces that, over time, properly align, correct, support, and stabilize parts of the body.
- Wheelchairs – An estimated 70 million people worldwide are in need of wheelchairs.

A Virtual Rocktoberfest
The industry charity is making its signature event series, Rocktoberfest, more accessible than ever this October. In light of the pandemic, the 19-year-old event series went virtual in 2020, expanding reach from its historic in-person events held in New York, Chicago, & London to a live-stream concert hosting thousands of viewers from more than 24 countries across the globe.
This year’s Rocktoberfest event, set for October 21st, at 7pm EST is officially open for registration and will again feature a live-stream concert performed by bands made up of financial services professionals. In addition, the charity will give guests and sponsors the tools needed to host event watch parties, offering a unique opportunity for attendees to gather together within COVID-appropriate accommodations and individual comfort levels.
