January is Poverty in America Awareness Month and 2020 events have dramatically increased food insecurity nationwide. Putting our core value of empathy into action, Gate 39 Media is running a month-long campaign through the end of January to support the Chicago Food Bank.
Every donation will help bring food, dignity, and hope to our neighbors across Chicago and Cook County. The money raised through our virtual food drive provides fresh food for our neighbors at risk of hunger. Thanks to the Food Depository’s buying power, every $1 can provide 3 meals. Your support makes an immediate impact to take hunger off the table!
We encourage you to join us in donating to the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
According to GCFD’s Winter 2020 newsletter, the organization is in the process of building up production of 4,700 meals a day, which will be distributed to select partners in high-priority communities. GCFD also plans on building an inventory of more than 50,000 frozen meals, bracing for the possibility of another surge in demand.
“The world is changing, so we must change with it,” said Jill Rahman, the Food Depository’s chief operating officer. “Building our capacity for prepared meals will help us to serve our most vulnerable neighbors in a time of crisis.”
If anything, the pandemic has underscored the need for more prepared meals for older adults and people with disabilities, delivered either to their homes or in congregate settings.
Thank you to all donors to the Chicago Food Bank who are supporting this vision.
